Hi all. I researched what card I should get for Linux recently (admittedly on short notice) and decided an ATI TV Wonder Pro (with remote) suited my purpose so I went out and bought one. It seems that ATI have changed the chipset without making it obvious :( I got past this and eventually realised I needed the cx8800 driver. I upgraded to the video4linux 20031212 snapshot (latest) from http://www.bytesex.org and went up to a 2.6.0-test11 kernel as well (it was the easiest way to go). Anyway I was able to detect the card & bring up a tv window (full of static) with tools like xawtv and mplayer. The problem arises with the tuner. When I modprobe tuner.ko (2.6 style kernel module) I see the following in dmesg: tuner: chip found @ 0xc0 cx8800[0]: i2c attach [client=(tuner unset)] registering 0-0060 If I try to set the tuner type as I load the module I see this: tuner: chip found @ 0xc0 cx8800[0]: i2c attach [client=(tuner unset)] registering 0-0060 tuner: type forced to -1 (<NULL>) [insmod] tuner: type set to 2 (Philips NTSC (FI1236,FM1236 and compatibles)) I've tried to set the tuner type at every value (by way of a script) and with each type I tried a scantv to see the result. All values of type=0 to 100 failed (specifically, scantv reports no tuner present on the device). The module code clearly shows the type is defaulting to -1 because the code author's didn't know the type of tuner. I've RTFMed and experimented extensively on this but felt it was time to talk to the list. If I can supply any other info to help with tracking this down I'll happily supply it. My aim is to get this card working with Canadian cable-tv. Also, I remember reading (somewhere in the volumes I've read on this in the last 2 days) that an external tuner can be used. How would I go about doing this? Could a digital cable box be used? I'd guess I'd still need to get the tv card listening at the right frequency, which means I still need a s/w tuner driver :) TIA for any assistance.
