Hello,
The MIC input uses only one channel of the audio jack; the second
channel has a 5V power supply on it; that means "it's powered".
I'm surprised. I tested the MIC input with the 'record' program, and got
sound on both left and right channels.
Besides, the sensitivity of the MIC input is much higher than the one of
LINE input, so it's far less noise proof.
I think the noise picked by LINE comes not via the jack, but from
*inside* the PC.
If your LINE input picks up
noise, check the cable OR the soundcard, or try to mute the other
inputs.
Which I did.
This shouldn't happen.
Indeed...

Hi,
I think that cable should go to LINE IN. MIC input is powered.
Peter Zubaj
What do you mean by 'is powered'?
We use MIC because the LINE input seems to pick up a lot of noise.
