is not set for the line in plug of your sound card that your video tuner is
connected to, the system will not receive audio from the line and you will not
be recording sound with your video files. Further, you should disable the
record option on the mic as well to avoid sound distortions from during gain.
My suggestion (using the gui version of audio controls for redhat) would be to
a) uncheck record for mic
b) check record for the line in that your tuner cards output is connected to
c) Start up the capture software and play with the gain's until you get a
good sound while watching captured video.
I believe that there is no controllable sound portion of the Aver card. the
aver card splits the audio off of the coax input once it enters the card and
then ships it right back out on the audio output jack. That's why it's
necessary to put the connection cord from the aver (and ATI TV Wonder) cards
straight to the sound cards line in.

Where does the TkMixer or aumixer configuration take effect? I haven't
tried this yet because now I'm not at home, but I my guessing is that
the effect is similar than the "Sound & Video"->"Volume Control" of
RedHat menus. Any guess about if they do the same or where these
wizards write the config?
I'm not familiar with these sound specs, so I understand the "Mute"
option but I don't really know what the "Rec" option is about. Is this
related to recording the sound from the tv to a sound file?

May I ask you what config do you have in /etc/modules.conf? Depending
on the parameters in /etc/modules.conf, I find or miss the audio device
of the Avertv in the "Sound & Video"->"Volume Control" of Redhat menus.
