Frank,
I think what I have done using RH 8 and xawtv which uses the bttv
driver is as follows;

I set up 4 desktop, windows or whatever you want to call them in kwindows.
I do this as myself a user.
Using cntrl+tab I can toggle back and forth to the windows.

I like xterm so in each I set up an 'xterm -fg(yellow or cyan or white)
-bg black. Of course the xterm window has very small text being in a 1280
x ?? window. But first I start in window 1 (upper left) 'xawtv' then in
that window hit crtl+f for full screen.
Then hit ctrl+alt+(+) and change the window size to get to 640x480 screen
size. With this routine I end up with a border to border window that is
sharp and clear. Sure is better on my 19" sony monitor than my 13"
panosonic TV.

To go to my other windows I do a ctrl+tab and get to my other windows and
just move them around to suit the position left by xawtv in window one.

The other windows being text window may need some resizing using the upper
right and lower left corner mouse thing (click mouse on corner, get double
ended diagonal arrow and drag around)

I find my F5-12 keys will change the brightness, hue, contrast and color.
Ctrl+f toggles between full screen or smaller screen that you cn use 'o'
in and get the xawtv menu of actions.

I know this sounds complex and involved but once I have it all set and
working I leave it that way 24/7 as I have cox.net but do shut the tv
display off at bedtime.

I also run a bbs on linux and it is a Fido system you can check in via
'telnet ob.darktech.org'

Hoping this is of help.
