-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I hate to sound like a whining newb, but I want an answer now! :) background: I've been doing some off-and-on video editing under windows with adobe premiere, so I know this system "works" so far as capture, edit, and print. I now have SuSE 8.2 installed, complete with mainactor as supplied on the CD's, but I can't seem to get started... In particular, what do I need to do to "see" my camera under linux? /proc/bus/ieee1394 does show the device, but where do I go from there to actually "capture video" [or control the camera, for that matter?] The capture program supplied w/mainactor only sees my haupauge card [wintv] with little or no provision for selecting a firewire device. Looking around I saw refrerences to "/dev/ieee1394/<whatever>" in the dvgrab manpage, but no such devices were configured during the installation [clean install, BTW] so I suspect that there is some more configuration needed to set up a firewire device, but finding anything that lets me search, define, or test such devices is proving elusive. I thought to search the archives, but there doesn't appear to be a search function on the archive webpage, so I'm resorting to a "human powered" search ;) [actually, my first search was on the v4l homepage, but strangely enough there doesn't seem to be anything that jumps out and says, "I'm the FAQ!" there either...] -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2-rc1-SuSE (GNU/Linux) Comment: http://osnut.homelinux.net/TomEmerson.asc iD8DBQE+pXTRV/YHUqq2SwsRAksJAKC11GI0ItiMUMGdhQQbX+tonVO4KwCfRVMX Rq+X2Rqm+UASuu2jEMCmPZE= =e2w6 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
