Probably.  The detection is triggered by a IRQ which is raised by the
saa7134 on TV norm changes (with "no signal" being one of the states
among "PAL", "NTSC" and "SECAM").  So a bad signal certainly might
trigger it.

I plan to have a look at certain saa713x issues (which includes the tv
sound handling) ASAP, but right now I have some stability problems
with the latest bttv 0.9.x drivers ...
