I'm still doing my driver development mainly with 2.2 since 2.4 isn't
working well.

Besides, V4L2 isn't solving the format problem. Yeah, maybe there is a type
for JPEG unlike in V4L1, but there will always be custom formats which will
not be supported in V4L2 API (officially) and thus it won't make much more
sense for applications to use V4L2 API than V4L1, since it won't be solving
the problem with formats ultimately anyway (assuming no format conversions
in the kernel).

Gstreamer might solve, when it is a standard component in all
distributions. I hope that will happen soon.
