ok, so this is a developers-only list...

On two occasions earlier this month I asked a question about why
v4l-conf (and therefore xawtv) was all of a sudden failing with the
following error: "can't open /dev/video0: Cannot allocate memory".

My winfast tv2000 card was working well until I had upgraded the
video card from an nvidia TNT card to a geforce4. I've been at my
wits end trying to discover what happened and how to get it working
again... nothing else changed (including the same X driver), just
the video card. (It works fine if I boot into that other os from
redmond, but that rarely happens).

The first (detailed) message got zero response. Nothing. Zip.

On the second occasion I got _one_ reply (privately) that was
sympathetic, but offered a suggestion that unfortunately didn't work
(giving a mem= parameter to the kernel at bootup).

I originally subscribed to this mailing list with the impression
(and hope) that I could get some pointers from people who knew what
might be going on. And I've persisted in the hope that perhaps some
developers might also be curious about what had happened.

What I have observed over the past month or so is that newbie or
help-me posts from "users" are almost always ignored.

BTW, I'm anything but a newbie to linux, and I am quite capable of
doing kernel patches and recompiles. (Which I actually tried btw,
with the bytesex.org patches -- still no go).

Ok, so this is obviously a developers-only maling list. And if I
was a v4l developer then this is definitely the place to be.

Thanks for not making it plainly clear on the list's web page (URL
below) that user-like messages would be ignored. I'm tempted to
add "thanks for wasting my time" but I don't want to sound so rude.

So -- where can I go to find people who _are_ willing to help me
work out how I can get my tv capture card working again?

Cheers
Tony
(not holding my breath for a response...)
