Well, I decided to give v4l2/bttv-0.9 at least a try (and just
succeeded in capturing 'first light' through them - so far so good;).

Field-rate capture for bttv probably isn't anywhere near the top of
your todo list, or is it?  Any chance I could change your priorities?
(And yes, I'll do it myself if necesssary, but I'm simply not much of
a kernel hack).

Anyway, thanks for the helpful comments so far (that goes to all of
you)!
