My hunch is that PCMCIA would be better, particularly for USB 1.0 based laptops. But I'm curious to hear:

a) if people have any preferences
b) if there are even and PCMCIA video capture cards supported by V4L. I didn't see any on the "gallery" page.

Not sure if they are supported, but a USB2 PCMCIA card might be a good solution. Then you get the the supported USB devices with the added speed of USB2, when you need it, and none of the hassles of finding a supported PCMCIA capture card. They aren't too expensive <pricewatch USB2 PCMCIA cards> <http://castle.pricewatch.com/search/searchmc.idq?cr=USB%202.0%20%20PCMCIA&qc=%22USB%22*+AND+%222.0%22*+AND+%22PCMCIA%22*+AND+%40totalcost%3E0+AND+%40ctd+44&i=44&ct=Computer&c=Controller+Cards&mi=N&m=N&ne=9324&l=9278> but check the usb lists to be sure. Same for specific devices.
