I haven't used mencoder yet, but mplayer-0.90rc1 can access V4L2 TV input just fine using the older 0.1.x saa7134 module + old v4l2 patches. You need a '-fps 30' parameters on the command line (at least, the version from FreshRPMs need it). When trying to use 2.4.20+0.2.2 saa7134 modules, mplayer would display one frame, then display a green screen, so the output flashes between a video frame and a green screen continuously. There's something really wierd with v4l-compat support in the new 0.2.x modules. After invoking it the first time, subsequent attempts to run mplayer for TV viewing will crash mplayer without getting any video output. Incidentally, xawtv-3.81 compiles fine on my RH 8.0 + make 3.80 setup. It displays correctly in X11 on my NVidia GF4-MX440T card when using the vesa driver (nv doesn't support this model, I've tried). It displays Black&White when running using the NVidia binaries (4191) when using overlay mode (Xv or noxv), but displays correctly when using grabdisplay mode. Does anyone know if this is a problem with the XFree86 v4l driver, or NVidia driver? (I hesitate to recompile XFree86 to use the new v4l2 defs).
