The current frequency table code in tvtime is horrible. :) I'll fix it up this weekend and then we can have a proper comparison. :) > > [...] Looking at Gerd's frequency tables, one thing I like about it > > is that it's one file, rather than a whole load of very > > whitespaced/verbose files. I prefer the DScaler file. I wasn't very clear here. I meant that I like DScaler better since Gerd's is based on building a table from lots of very verbose config files. > I think the verbosity isn't bad temper for the open format. We can also generate it from XML, or to XML. (I don't > think someone need XML based frequency table, but this is just an > example) Well, I just mean that it's hard to compare frequency numbers in tables in Gerd's format, and also it's hard to write a new file by hand. > > [...] For one, it lets you handle HRC/IRC NTSC cable modes better, > > Could you tell me what is "HRC/IRC NTSC cable mode" and what's the > problem? I'm very sorry I know only Japanese broad cast things. It's not a problem, but really there is only one NTSC cable frequency list, and then there are three different types of cable: HRC, IRC and normal. HRC and IRC are both simple offsets of the normal frequencies, with exceptions for channels 5 and 6. So, in tvtime for example, we have one NTSC cable tuner map, and then you can turn on IRC or HRC mode which performs the mapping. > I have an additional suggestion to Gerd's format. With Gerd's format he uses #includes and stuff, so afaict this makes it a bit difficult to have tables with metadata on the table itself. -- Billy Biggs vektor@xxxxxxxxxxxx
