Annoying hum from Flyvideo 98FM (LR50)

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

I'm trying to use a Flyvideo 98FM card, sold under the name CyberMail
Xtreme. The webcam works OK, and the video from the tuner is OK. The
FM audio from the tuner sounds OK. The tv audio, however, has an
annoying low humming or buzzing noise.

Could this be a problem with the drivers, or is it more likely a
hardware problem? (It's installed in a noisy and hot Athlon smp
machine.) I've tried the most recent versions of all the bttv and v4l
drivers in several different kernels, and they don't seem to work any
better than the drivers in a stock Debian 2.4.19-k6-smp kernel. Right
now, I've gone back to the stock kernel.

Searching the video4linux mail archives didn't turn up many references
to "hum" or "buzz". Is there documentation somewhere that deals with
this problem? Have other people had this problem?

I've been loading the bttv module with the option "tuner=36". I've
systematically tried scores of different combinations of card numbers
and tuner numbers, and while many don't work or work badly, some seem to
work fine, though none is better than letting bttv autodetect the card,
while I set the tuner option to 36. If anyone has any suggestions for
how to get rid of the hum, please let me know.

Here is some output from dmesg:
