Hi Bob,

I got a Pinacle LINX video capture device, an USB device. Anyone has
experience with this and can give me a hint? Or direct me to a "video
capture using Linux for dummies"?
Do you have a model of that device and/or an URL to the manufacturer?

www.pinnaclesys.com

Does it use a compatible chipset?

How do I find which chipset it uses?

The first thing is to make sure USB works on your computer.

My Iomega Zip Drive 250Mb USB works fine, so I guess USB is ok. :-)

Could someone point me to a beginners guide on how to do video
capture, that is, save the video stream from LINX to am AVI or MPEG
file?

The device (LINX) is working fine under Windows. But I want to
use it on Linux!

You have the firewire card?

I have no idea where firewire support on Linux stands.

I haven't found an all around tutorial on v4l but the links and documentation @http://www.video4linux.net are a good start.
