In the 0.7.96 bttv driver archive (http://bytesex.org/bttv/listing.html), there is a utility (bttv-0.7.96/contrib/detect.c) which scans the I2C bus for all devices connected. If there is a I2C based IR receiver, it should be able to find it's I2C address. But, it is indeed also possible that the IR receiver is connected to the GPIO ports of the SAA7130.
