Your problem is different from the one I had... So I'm guessing. Did you check the 'dmesg' command? Check if it indicates that your bttv driver was installed correctly. Did you compile your kernel with the drivers as modules? Check card=56, that seems another version of the 98FM card. There's also a v4l2 patch, which was necessary for the saa7130 card I'm now using. And finally, did you configure for a size of 48x32? Isn't that too small? I believe default is 320x240...
