xawtv Full Screen

I have a TFT flat panel screen that does not re-sync to a different resolution very well for Xawtv in full screen mode. So instead in full screen mode the best I can do is to watch a picture about 2/3 the full screen size. Is there a way to actually make xawtv utilize the full screen or can someone explain why the problem exists?
