Most likely you just need to pass it some options, like card=54 (for
FlyVideo 2000), and perhaps video_nr=0 in /etc/modules.conf (then
run depmod), probably your tuner make as well.
Here's mine:
options bttv card=41 tuner=28 radio=1 bttv_verbose=2 bttv_debug=1
automute=1 no_overlay=0 irq_debug=1 mmap=1 sloppy=1
