first instal the soursces -- from your cd -- but decide if you are going to 
use suse or regular-- since the instant you compile a kernal -- you are on 
your own  - suse will tell you to get rid of it ( best advise is "make
bzImage
and bzdisk "

in a console 
su ---------------
cd /usr/src/linux
 ~#   make xconfig
(wait)
GUI appears -- third button down left side
GUI child appears 
click ---  SYMETRIC .........~ processing  SUPPORT
 
THERE is a how to on this - but the last time  i pondered  it was about 
was for the hurricane kernal may be things have changed RH 4~
     i`ll bet there is even an html by now 
in all reaity do some reading first
