Hello all. I'm trying to build a PVR (personal video recorder) box with
Linux and I thought it would be a lot easier than this.
I'm trying to get the bttv drivers installed. I've got a default
installation of Redhat 7.3 (kernel 2.4.18-3). That default kernel has v4l
support already built-in. It also came with bttv 0.7.81 modules, which
somewhat worked.
I downloaded bttv 0.7.93 and ran a make (using gcc 2.96). It compiled
with a few warnings for example:
/usr/src/linux-2.4.18-3/include/asm/processor.h:504: warning: no previous
prototype for `prefetchw'
I have no idea if this is normal or not. A "make install" puts the
drivers in /lib/kernel/2.4.18-3custom/misc, I have no idea why, as insmod
will never find them there. Being a moron I moved them to
/lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/drivers/media/video and overwrote the default
drivers. Now when I insmod bttv it complains about unresolved symbols (see
below). Does anyone have a clue as to what's going on here. What am I
doing wrong? I'm afraid I'm not a programmer, and long for a simple RPM.
But I guess I have to get this working if I want to build my PVR. Thanks
