non-SMP compiler issues

Hi all

I've just got myself a Flyvideo 3000 & set about getting it working on my
P2 233Mhz. After downloading kernel-2.4.18, applying patch 2.4.19-pre8,
applying v4l2 patch & compiling the kernel, I got a HUGE bunch of compiler
warnings about variables being redefined & ultimately an error regarding
an undefined reference. If I enable SMP support, all these errors go
away! I don't really want to have SMP support floating around though, as
the kernel docs say that this can cause a slowdown & possibly other
issues. Are these problems a known issue? Anyone else have this problem?

If someone wants a dump of my compilation output (& maybe my kernel config
file) to do some post-mortem analysis, shout...

Carl
