I did read that post and checked my version in anticipation. However it was already 2.4.14, so that wasn't the cause in this case. I now have 2.4.15 but haven't tried since. Gerd reported something about himself not compiling with version info, which I tried and that worked (I know, i wouldn't really say "fixed").

Wrong, althougt may works.
You did not read infos at bytesex - you need modutils >=2.4.14. I made the
same mistake, when I installed my card.
symbol vmalloc_to_page is exported as GPL symbol supported with newest
modutils.
