I realize that, but 0.8.33 is the latest (AFAIK) that will work with
an "unpatched" (i.e. 2.5 backported features IIRC) kernel.  I don't
really want to start building my own kernels and prefer to use the
distro's kernels if I can.

I realize this, but 0.8.33 has worked on quite a few 2.4 kernelsi
prior to the latest ones my distro has put out.

No ideas why all of a sudden 0.8.33 would start oopsing kernels when
ones prior have had no troubles?
