xawtv upgrade broken

I just upgraded xawtv to 3.72 via Mandrake 8.2 rpm.  When I start it, I 
get a window that appears to contain artifacts.  When I pull up the 
options window, there's no listing for: TV norm, Video soure, audio mode,
freq. table.  Any suggestions as what I'm missing?

I didn't have to buy my radio from a specific company to listen
to FM, why doesn't that apply to the Internet (anymore...)?
