*grin*.. No. Just talking to the chip.

That's actually already done. We have a working hardware
implementation of what we want to do but its all DOS code talking
directly to the 69000's registers.

Now I could port the overlay portions of this over but then I have to
run my app setuid root. Which that in its self is not really much of
an issue for this app, but I don't want to re-do it if its already
done. Or if I have to create something new then I want to have
something useable by the rest of the community.

Ooops wrong chip. sorry. I ment saa7111a. It's hooked up to the
69000 input.

That's the area I'm asking about.. Looks to me like if we were to
hook the 7111's up to the system I2C bus (via a 440bx chipset) then I
would be able to talk to them via the kernel driver. From >2.4.x
there even seems to be a 7111a driver.

We don't really want to do that however as its a change from a design
we know works.

I also see that there is a X windows I2C module. So I'm wondering if
the framework for this is already inplace via an X module. Then all
I have to do is either find/write the driver for 69000 -> 7111a
communications.

It does.

Ok.. I'll go prowl around the v4l overlay stuff.
