Windows version: According to most of the reviews I've seen on the web they've got the best DV Codec available. MainActor is organized in accordance with UNIX philosophy... comes as a suite of smallish programs, each with specific functions. The editor is very precise and could be very usable. It is a bit clumsy for those of us used to working with a timeline metaphor. The sequencer is nice enough... simple, easy to use... has some nice features... I prefer Virtual Dub as far as editors go and vastly prefer RexEdit... Linux version: Haven't used it for a few years... it worked well enough the last time I set it up. As far as Linux software goes: I wonder if linux might really benefit from something like avisynth... a scripting language to manage multimedia files. That way folk could work at smaller components and someone could put together an interface to manage stuff. Maybe something like emacs or keykit or C4D with a primary viewing window that would write scripts that would manage the extensions, call other programs etc? It would seem to be the way things work best on this platform.
