The analog DVD output contains standards violating signals that hose things
like video recorders. Digital DVD output is prohibited by the licenses
required to gain access to DVD specifications

DVD is limited to 720x480 (you see about half the horizontal resolution
with a typical analog TV). In the future you'll be able to link your
DVD player via crypted digital links to an approved crypto protected etc
HDTV. You'll need the same crypto to be able to use the TV by then probably
