I have the Pinnacle PCTV PRO.  Are you talking about still capture or
motion capture?  For me xawtv is fine if I don't specify the -noxv
option, but then I can't save images.  If I don't specify -noxv I can
capture but either way it captures both fields (interplaced in one
frame).  Zapping will capture stills without being interlaced.  I
have a libmpeg.zapping.so in the plugin directory, but I can't seem to
figure out how to use it.  (any ideas?)

I've used mp1e with great success for capturing movies.  Even my k6-2
300MHz is fast enough to mpeg encode in realtime.

I'm running 2.4.16 with v4l that came with the kernel.
