Some more information about this:
On running motv, I receive this on the console:

This is motv-3.61, running on Linux/i686 (2.4.16-4GB)

/dev/video0 [v4l]: no overlay support
v4l-conf had some trouble, trying to continue anyway
them the motv window appears, and also a dialog that says:
Errors
ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(0,fmt=7,size=8x4): Invalid argument
ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(0,fmt=15,size=8x4): Invalid argument
ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(0,fmt=3,size=8x4): Invalid argument
The matrix of pictures that appear are also slanted to the left at the top.
