where exactly ARE the saa* modules (in the kernel config, i mean)?
other than that, I can load modprobe, and xawtv doesn't segfault unless I don't have a video source...
is there anything I have to specify regarding which video input I use?
Thnx

Maybe everybody else disagrees, but in general I like such discussions on the list. Not least because others can search the archives if/when they run into the same problems. Finding the discussion about something that doesn't work for you has two advantages: you know it's not just you, and you know it's been fixed in a later version. Taken offline the question just gets asked again.

But most people hate it when you sent large dumps with debug information
over the list.

You are always free to post the solution (if we find any) on the list for
others to find, but in general I notice that the debugging of a driver
is not really interesting for other parties.

But, oh well... Here it is, from the README and INSTALL files:

Please rebuild the driver after defining DEBUG as explained in the
comment. Than reload the module zoran.o. tuner.o is not needed,
the zoran needs either the saa7110 or saa7111 videodecoder loaded.
(there is no real support for tuner on zoran cards, due to the fact
that a) i do not have such a card and b) nobody who has one sent
any patches for me to integrate)

Now, when you have the new driver build and loaded, keep an eye
on /var/log/messages or whatever file your debug messages go to.
Start xawtv or better streamer (from the same package) which will
allow you to do a single grab, instead of a zilion.
Sent me (oh no! the list) that the relavant part of the debug
information

Oh, needless to say, but you have a proper video source connected
to the card? Like a videorecorder, satelite dish decoder?
