I also had the issue with the sound playing - mp1e adjusts the "line" volume control but for my sound card that is not the right control for record level. At 720x576 you'll need 4-6Mb of video. At 352x288 I find mp1e using around 10% only of my Athlon 1.13GHz CPU. Steve
