Multi-input cards

Hi all,

I'm planning my first foray into the viseo world under
Linux (or any other O/S for that matter). I'd like to get
a card that has at least 2, if not more video (PAL)
inputs.

A few questions from the Video newbie:

1. I have a hard time finding hard information about supported
cards. I can find a whole list of drivers etc, but mostly they
only list the chipset (Bt8x8 etc). It is however hard to find
cards based on that criterion. At least here in SG, the shopkeepers
usually have no clue which chipset is in the card they sell. All
they go by is the brandname (Snazzi, Dazzle etc).
Is there any resource that lists the names under which cards based
on each chipset are sold?

2. What options would I have for multi-input cards? I'd like to
capture continuously off both (or more) inputs and not have to
switch between inputs. Can v4l2 do that with one card?

3. I found the motion package to detect/mark motion in captured video.
Does something like that exists in which certain areas of
perpetual/expected motion can be excluded from detection?

4. Just as a rough guideline, how much space does captured video
take per second/minute etc (assuming PAL and full motion)?

if the above are FAQs/answered somewhere online, I'd be happy with
a few pointers instead of full replies :-)

TIA
