Appears like Grapping from the DV - kinda Link is inherently
different than most typical V4L applications ...
The data streaming in is allready in a preprocessed format.
Does the v4l developer group (You Guys :) have or need
to have their hands in this ?
(I would say If its possible - Interfaces connect Worlds
!)
cheers
Tobias
Attached an overview of My research on the
topic:

If you have 1394 hardware you can now access it under Linux.
The supported chipsets are Texas Instruments PCILynx/PCILynx2 and OHCI compliant
chips (produced by various companies). Not supported are the proprietary Sony
chipset found in various Vaio systems or the Adaptec AIC-5800. Work has been
done toward support for the Adaptec chip-based cards, but few have successfully
used it. Please note as well that not all Sony VAIO systems use the proprietary
chip. Some contain the CXD3222, which is reported to be OHCI
compliant.

dvgrab is a program which saves the audio and video data from a digital
camcorder into an AVI file. These AVI files can then be processed further by
other video editing programs available for Windows or Linux.
...
When using dvgrab you can turn on your camcorder, start the program and
forget about it until the tape is completely saved.
http://www.schirmacher.de/arne/dvgrab/index_e.htmldvgrab supports several file formats. The two most useful are of
course the two AVI formats Type-1 and Type-2. There is also a raw format which
contains only the plain DV data. QuickTime for Windows can play this format when
the file is given the *.dv extension.
