video4linux List serve Users
:
I am new to this list. I
see a referral to a "FAQ". If someone could point out the URL where I
could find that, perhaps I might get some information of my problem. My
problem is the following:
I have a Hauppauge WinTV card,
showing up in dmesg as a "B878". On my RedHat 7 (kernel 2.2.16) image
system I installed xawtv, as well as loaded the bttv and tuner modules
(using modprobe). After following these steps, and tweaking with xawtv
configuration for channel, mode, etc... I got my card to work for picture,
but no sound (the card works fine, I have a removable hard-drive and swap
between Windows and Linux all the time... In Windows the WinTV card has no
problems). I have a creative SoundBlaster PCI512 audio card that works
fine with Linux CD Music programs, as well as "cat <Audio File> >
/dev/audio". Other than loading xawtv, I have not altered any module that
is used here from the "generic" RedHat 7 O/S. I have the generic bttv that
is loaded with RedHat 7.0 (running xawtv makes some statement about the version
I have being "prehistoric") and I am wondering if upgrading this might address
my problem. When go to the bttv page, they talk about "do this for
2.3 kernel and beyond..." and I am at 2.2.16. I am also toally new to
using my WinTV card on Linux (it would be one less reason to boot into Windows)
and i am wondering if xawtv is the best application to use, as well as any other
information that would help a first-time user...
Any information / assistance is
welcome.
