Unfortunately you would end up with the interlace ´devil´. There´s really no good solution to the problem of showing an interlaced image on a non-interlaced viewer. Either you pick only half the frames (which, for viewing purposes is usually adequate), or end up with jagged edges with fast moving objects. Trying to compensate for these edges would require extra silicon on the chips -> expensive!
