I've often wondered about what the /real/ > maximum frame rate of the bt8x8's was. What the TV norm gives, i.e. 640x480 @ 30fps for NTSC, a bit larger image @ 25 fps on PAL + SECAM. If the image size is smaller than half height you can split the fields and use them for different things, i.e. capture two small streams or do overlay and capture at the same time with full frame rate.
