  I thought so too.  But if you get xawtv working with all the correct settings, then
click on the channel editor and press save.  Even though you didn't create channels, it
saves the norm, audio, ... settings.  If not for you then I included my .xawtv below.
You might have to make some changes depending on your capture card and where you live.
