Why?  Should work fine as-is.  Changing it shouldn't break
thinks throuth...

Hmm.  I don't know what's wrong, should have worked...

GNU Make version 3.79.1, by Richard Stallman and Roland McGrath.

The kernel changes file lists 3.77 as minimum, maybe this is
the problem?

It's the same, i.e. you can use the kernels or bttv 0.7.x versions
of these.
