The pinnacle driver has a 'crop' mode (supposedly to remove the tv
overscan that you'll not miss) that captures PAL @ 720x544.

I've a load of windows-recorded .avi files that are this size.

Interesting to know whether this is changing the timing parameters or if
it's just equiv to capturing a 720x544 window with lav?

At the moment the driver has a set of hardcoded encodings that are fixed
sizes but afaiaa the 6067 doesn't have that restriction - not sure about
the other chips involved though.

Things like the v4l mod for Xv currently assume (i.e hardcode) that PAL
== 768x576 at the moment which gives you a black border around any
overlay where the captured video is smaller.
