I understand from Alan's first response to my first question that the zoran driver simply will not build (in it's current form) against linux-2.2.18. Just now, I thought I'd be sly and build zoran-0.7 against linux-2.2.17 and try to insert the modules into my running .18 kernel. Heh; I failed. Here's how: pugelist:/usr/local/src/zoran-driver-0.7# make install su -c "cp -v zoran.o saa7111.o saa7110.o saa7185.o adv7175.o bt819.o bt856.o /lib/modules/`uname -r`/misc" `zoran.o' -> `/lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/zoran.o' `saa7111.o' -> `/lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/saa7111.o' `saa7110.o' -> `/lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/saa7110.o' `saa7185.o' -> `/lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/saa7185.o' `adv7175.o' -> `/lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/adv7175.o' `bt819.o' -> `/lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/bt819.o' `bt856.o' -> `/lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/bt856.o' pugelist:/usr/local/src/zoran-driver-0.7# depmod -a depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/ipv6/ipv6.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/adv7175.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/bt819.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/bt856.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/ipx.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/saa7110.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/saa7111.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/saa7185.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/zoran.o pugelist:/usr/local/src/zoran-driver-0.7# update-modules depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/ipv6/ipv6.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/adv7175.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/bt819.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/bt856.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/ipx.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/saa7110.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/saa7111.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/saa7185.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/zoran.o pugelist:/usr/local/src/zoran-driver-0.7# modprobe buz modprobe: Can't locate module buz pugelist:/usr/local/src/zoran-driver-0.7# modprobe zoran /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/zoran.o: kernel-module version mismatch /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/zoran.o was compiled for kernel version 2.2.17 while this kernel is version 2.2.18-pugelist. /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/zoran.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/zoran.o failed /lib/modules/2.2.18-pugelist/misc/zoran.o: insmod zoran failed Until Miguel responds to this bug, is there /any/ way to get this driver working without downgrading my entire system (I have a USB trackball and a G450 video card, so using linux-2.2.17 would be a real PITA). Alternatively, has anyone sucessfully compiled zoran-0.7 on a linux-2.4.0-prerelease kernel? Thanks again for your helpful responses. -- -=|JP|=- "This space intentionally left blank."
