Thanks for the pointer.  I downloaded the 2.4.0 tarball and tried it
with my 2.4.23 kernel.  This compiled and didn't give me unresolved
symbols, but did result in a kernel oops (shown below).  The card was
cheap enough that I may just abort the attempt and buy a known supported
card, unless someone has a revelation in the next day or so. ;)
