I believe this depends on the PCI bus structure; the bt878 chip needs to be
in a bus-master capable slot, and the number of busmasters in a PCI bus is
limitied. Most cards with 4 bt878 chips have their own pci bridge on board
to avoid these problems.

Another limiting factor is the maximum possible throughput over the PCI bus;
you can put a lot of chips in your PC, but with them all capturing your
images will be totally distorted and unusable.
