Hi:

I use a tool called mpgtx to demux MPEG files.  This usually gives me an
MPEG video stream and an MP2 audio stream.  This is good because it means
no re-encoding if you only want the sound.  If you need it as MP3 then you
can re-encode it as you see fit.

Since I installed it as a Debian package, I don't know where to download it
from, maybe try a search for it on Freshmeat.
