RE: PVR250 tuning problems

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi All - this is my first post. I have a problem being able to tune any NTSC us-cable channels using the Hauppage PVR-250. I've got pretty much everything installed from the install docs. I use tuner type=2 and the ivtv driver from the 7/7/2003 CVS snapshot. The driver runs well, except that I can't get it tune into any of the channels correctly - all I get is the static with sound. I've played around with changing frequencies with ptune.pl and ptune-ui.pl and I do seem to be picking up a few channels just by going through all frequencies and figure out what channel i'm getting. But doing this for all 70+ channels is very tough. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I would assume that us-cable freqtable and everything to be stable, but I'm not sure as this is only my second week at this stuff.

I was going through the mail archives here to see if there's any answers. The closest issue I found was this below. However, I do not see any resolution. I too have the same exact info listed from lspci:

03:06.0 Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc: Unknown device 0016 (rev 01)
Subsystem: Hauppauge computer works Inc.: Unknown device 4009
Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B-
Status: Cap+ 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR-
Latency: 32 (32000ns min, 2000ns max), cache line size 08
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 10
Region 0: Memory at f0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2
Flags: PMEClk- DSI- D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot-,D3cold-)
Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME-

I also tried switching channels from mythtv, but get the same results. Furthermore, I tried changing the tuner type= setting to several different types. The closest I get is using type=3 (PAL). Using this I get most of my channels, but they all are off by 1 (if setting channel 6, you're actually watching channel 5). But from reading several docs, all seem to conclude that I have set the wrong tuner type (which is obvious since I need to use NTSC). So I'm back to trying with tuner type=2.

Here's some info I've pulled off the card if that helps:

# Hauppage PVR 250: NTSC 32021 Rev B210
# I have: Philips Tuner
# 3139 147 132 61A
# FI1236 MK2/F hm
# SV23 0249
# Phillips Chip:
# SAA7115 ML
# C88347
# TS0306-1
# Conexant MPEG II A/V Encoder Chip:
# CX23416-12
# E304424.1
# 0249 Taiwan

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Shailesh

I'm trying to use this with MythTV, so I was using mythtv to change
channels. I had also tried ptune.pl to change channels with no luck (it
appeared to change the channels without error, but I get the same
results from cat /dev/video0 > /tmpfile or myth). As for output from
dmesg, I'm not sure offhand, I'll check when I get home. Also, I'm in
the US.

Thank you,

Robert Jacobson

have you used ptune.pl or one of the other programs in
util/ to change the channel?

how are you trying to change channels? what output is
given to dmesg when you change channels?

Where are you in the world?

I updated cvs last night with the changes that will
fix this. Sourceforge is about a day behind due to
their new replication policy. (changes put in cvs
arent' downloadable anonymously for ~24hrs)

Keep trying, it will eventually compile.
