it is possible via v4l2 api -- the driver can create different entries
for pal-d and pal-g instead of just using one, and they would appear
in the xawtv tvnorm menu ...

Maybe there is some way to autodetect it, not sure.  Up to now it
wasn't needed to pick that manually, the msp34xx sound processor
driver for example can find the audio carrier automatically ...
