I have RH 9 on a PIII-500 w/ a Radeon 7000 and a I/O magic DR-pvr100

I run xawtv and I get all static. I am able to change frequency, but
how do I know when I get to an actual channel? How am I supposed to
match up megahertz w/ say channel 3 on my cable tv. I am in the US.
Also do I want PAL or NTSC? I set to NTSC originally since that is what
I've seen laptops use or spec`ed for to connect to a tv for presentations.

I figured out how to change channels with the up and down arrows and fine tune w/ left and right. I saved a few channels w/ the channel editor even. So far I have only gotten color right on about two channels with lots of adjusting and if I went up or down the dial and come back I get my adjustments aren't saved. Even if I go to another channel and come back w/out changing contrast or color the channel is out of adjustment. Is this normal?

I also have a bar of static or parts of the channel image frozen at the bottom of the screen. How do I adjust this out and then save the settings? Is there a more friendly frontend to xawtv?
