I screwed up by not reading the OP carefully enough at the start of this
thread, but of THIS I'm sure because I have recently tried: ffmpeg *can*
encode video in various MP4 variants: mpeg4 (divx), msmpeg4v1,
msmpeg4v2, msmpeg4 (msmpeg4v3). If you select the avi output format, the
MS MediaPlayer seems quite happy with all 4 encodings.
