I think what you described is with the v4l2 API of xawtv. I was trying to
get xawtv working with v4l since mplayer uses v4l (not v4l2).

I don't really know how to interpret the xvinfo ouput :(

I'm using the exact same XF86Config in 2.4.20 as my currently working
kernel 2.4.20-pre11 (old v4l2 API, saa7134-0.1.x modules). I don't have
access to my box right now, but I'm pretty sure that load "v4l" is
specified. Otherwise xawtv wouldn't run in 20.4.20-pre11 right?

Does the v4l module in XFree86 need to be recompiled or something?
