I tried to get one of these newer WinTV PCI cards working

lspci lists this as unknown device (8800).

I put an old BT848 card in the system and it worked right off.

Any clues how to get this card working?

What do you mena with "newer" ? There are a lot of different types (with the same model number). If it is brand new, it might be based on the Conexant CX23880/CX23881, the successor of the bt878 (at least I've read somewhere that hauppauge will probably convert all its cards to that chip). This chip is not supported by a linux driver. And it's impossible to write a driver, since the datasheet is not available (not sure why, maybe has something to do with the way the chip handles macrovision in a digital tv stream? this is pure speculation however).
