Hardware Scaling

Does anybody know about the hardware scaling that is suggested as supported
by the VID_TYPE_SCALES capability, is this callable by the v4l API or do I
need to modify the kernel drivers to include some new ioctls to setup the
hardware scaling as I need it?

Is this supported in the v4l2 API in a better or differant way? should I
use the v4l2 api instead (Target platform Redhat 7.2, standard kernel, not
sure if it will support v4l2 without a kernel recompile, will have to check
that)

Again, thanks in advance
